Home is a complex term that varies from person to person. I have been exploring my own identity in many places I have resided of the last few years by taking an introspective approach to the word home, its loss of meaning in my life, and the effect it has had on my sense of self and identity. Each piece in Untitled Photos from Home was created in a mundane location, inside my current living situations. I manipulated and transformed these spaces into metaphorical representations of my lost identity and sense of self I experience. Photography is a tool used to record histories, to document ephemeral moments in time. My intention is to layer and deconstruct these living environments to convey the complexities that help shape my own identity. Through the use of collaging, I penetrate through the fragmented reality of what the notion of home has become and where it leaves me within. Using theatrical lighting, I transform my emotions and feelings associated with these places and things, revealing the intricate tapestry of emotions that are woven into the idea of home. The goal of the project is to hopefully allow viewers to investigate home through their own environments.
